Description

The Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) is leading a comprehensive Transformation Plan for the B.W. Cooper/Earhart Neighborhood in New Orleans. The Plan aims to address longstanding challenges and revitalize the area by redeveloping vacant lots into various housing options, amenities, and public spaces. The core objectives of the Plan revolve around addressing the critical issues of affordable housing, neighborhood needs, and enhancing resources for residents. By bringing together former B.W. Cooper residents, current Marrero Commons residents, and the surrounding community, HANO aims to foster a collaborative effort towards transformation and improving residents' quality of life. The planning process is not just about physical redevelopment but also about building trust, engaging local stakeholders, and empowering the community through active participation. Challenges in the targeted neighborhood stemming from historical issues, including the impact of Hurricane Katrina and infrastructural barriers, have created high poverty rates and increased property vacancies. The Transformation Plan seeks to counter these challenges by proposing innovative solutions and fostering collaborations that lead to lasting positive changes in the community.
